How much water do you drink a day? I am one of those people who think I drink enough but in reality, I don’t think I am drinking enough water a day. My blog is all about recipes and food, but right now I want to focus on drinking water (or other healthy beverage of choice) and how important it really is to stay hydrated.
This past weekend, our young daughter was sick and became very dehydrated. We had to take her to the Children’s Hospital ER where they checked her out. They kept her overnight and they gave her fluids that helped her rehydrate and perk up. I am so glad we took her in when we did. As parents, who don’t always know the signs of dehydration, unsure if they are dehydrated or not. We had been told from the pediatrician’s office of signs of dehydration, but sometimes it is hard to tell if that is the case. It was at night so she was sleepy, but at one point, we just knew she was at the point where she needed fluids. She bounced back and is feeling better today.
Of course, now my family is drinking water like there won’t be any more water the next day…which will eventually taper down a bit. But, I will tell you, I am making a point to drink more water each day. I am writing this to share this reminder to drink water and keep hydrated. Dehydration can come on pretty fast. A few good habits to start are to start the day with a nice cold drink of water, have a beverage with each snack or meal and to keep a bottle of water filled with you. Also, another great way to stay hydrated is to eat your fruits and veggies…did you know 20% of our fluid intake comes from our food? Pick drinks that you like, this way you are more likely to keep up on your drinking.
I am happy with drinking water, sometimes I like to add a little lemon to my water. A few health benefits from the lemon are that it is good for your skin, has some Vitamin C and also can help with digestion. Whether you drink water plain or add a squeeze of a lemon once in a while, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you drink water to keep yourself hydrated. I am not a doctor, just someone who has learned how important it is to stay hydrated! So go grab a nice cold glass of water and drink up and enjoy your day!
